The Crown Maker Of Ile-Ife
As part of BattaBox’s Ife series, Odunayo and Kayode met up with a crown maker that makes almost all the crowns for Obas in Yoruba land!
“I started learning how to make crowns soon after I left secondary school,” he explains to Odunayo.
“You know kings have always been crowned since before I was born. Some even come with a picture of their ancestor’s crown for me to remake for them.”
“This type is called Peke. It’s for traditional chiefs,” he shows Odunayo a small crown before taking her around the rest of his shop.
