Manchester United and Everton agree deal for Lukaku
It’s happening. The 24-year-old Belgian looks to be heading to Old Trafford this week after the two Premier League giants agreed on a 75 million pound transfer fee. After weeks of speculation regarding United’s potential new striker and whether it would be Griezmann, Morata, or Lukaku, the answer now seems pretty clear.
Well, forget everything I wrote about Alvaro Morata and Manchester United yesterday. While I still think Morata would have been the better investment, it looks as if Jose Mourinho and the Red Devils are going in a different direction.

Late last night or early this morning, depending on your global positioning, news broke that United and Everton have agreed on a $90 million fee to send the Belgian attacker from Goodison Park right down the road to Old Trafford.
The finality of the deal is still vague and unclear, as Everton sources claim that no such deal has been reached or agreed upon. However, where there is smoke there is fire. The Red Devils were rumored to be front runners to snag Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid but United will not pursue the Spaniard’s signature any longer.
The deal comes at an interesting time, since the two clubs are working on a deal that would see Wayne Rooney return to his boyhood club. Perhaps United used the aging Englishman as leverage to secure the star strikers’ signature.
Lukaku will be the second-most expensive signing in United’s history, after the mega-deal that saw Paul Pogba return to Old Trafford from Juventus last year. He was always the Portuguese managers’ first choice, and was an extremely hot commodity this summer given the small number of world class centre-forwards available.
The Belgian is an extremely strong, traditional striker who has scored more than 20 goals in the last 3 seasons. Where he might lack in a bit of pace, he certainly makes up for with his accurate strikes and great ability in the air.
With United getting their man, Chelsea will have to adjust. Antonio Conte was banking on bringing back Lukaku to Stamford Bridge after dismissing Diego Costa via text message. The champions will now probably pursue Alvaro Morata.
