Man Cleans Out His Grandpa’s Old Armoire, What He Found Left Us Speechless!
Our family relics can be gateways to the past. More often than not, the furniture, clothing, sealed suitcases, and dusty boxes of our forebears are links to knowledge about our family that sometimes gets lost along the way.
In the case of one European man, his grandfather’s legacy was a bit more ambiguous. He’d been left an armoire after his grandpa had passed away, but had no idea what it contained. And while he hoped that it contained some, long-forgotten fortune, what he found was perhaps even more valuable…
When a young man from Europe posted pictures to Imgur in 2016, he had no idea that the cabinet he had received as an inheritance from his grandfather, would garner so much attention. On the surface, the beautiful, antique armoire, which had been in the family for decades, looked like just a lovely piece of furniture.
Despite the fact that he had inherited the impressive piece some years earlier, he had never really taken the opportunity to give it a proper cleaning or restore it in any way. The man wasn’t much for spring cleaning, but he was sure that there had to be something interesting in the old dresser…
Though little was known about the original owner of the armoire, other than the fact that he was the poster’s grandfather, We do know that the cabinet is of an extremely distinctive, European design. It’s curvature and shape, as well as the distinctive molding at the top, makes it appear to have been at least partially homemade. Once he opened the doors and took a look, everything appeared perfectly normal. It was full of beautiful and probably antique glassware that his forebears might have used when company came over. Of course, it wasn’t just filled with cups and goblets…
The owner got right to it, cleaning each of the glass tumblers and wine goblets, completely unaware of what was lurking deep inside the rest of the case. After a little while, however, he decided that the process might go better if he took everything out of it first, so he could polish the shelves and then put them back in.
